Our bodies are exposed to toxins every day. There are chemicals everywhere – our foods, beauty products, and even in the environment. In fact, humans today are exposed to more toxins than ever before. Despite the body’s best effort to eliminate these toxins through its very efficient systems, the onslaught of exposure can cause a build-up of toxins in the body’s tissues over time. Detoxification therapies can be used to aid the body in eliminating dangerous toxins before they cause major health problems and disease.

Each organ in the body plays a specific role in maintaining your overall health. Many organs, including the liver and kidneys, filter wastes from your body on a daily basis. But when toxins overwhelm the body’s detoxification pathways, they can cause symptoms like moodiness, depressions, fatigue and bloating. It can even lead to ongoing health conditions, such as allergies, joint pain, constipation, acne, eczema and insomnia.

 
 

 
 
 

Why do I need to detox regularly?

If you can’t remember the last time you felt ‘great’, it may be time for a detox. Detoxification therapy is actually one of my main foundational treatment protocols that assists with a multitude of conditions eg hormonal and gut ailments. A good detox will generally be recommended if you…

• Take prescription or over-the-counter medications regularly

• Have mercury fillings

• Eat foods that contain pesticides eg commercial fruit and veg from the supermarket

• Use lawn care, cleaning or beauty products that are not organic

• Exhibit symptoms of toxicity, such as problems with digestion, mood, behaviour, concentration, sinuses, skin, joints, immune depletion and energy.

 
 

 
 
 

Do I really need to detox?

It’s true, your body is constantly detoxifying itself. In a perfect world, we wouldn’t really need it, but due to the ever increasing chemical burden of modern living our bodies can become overwhelmed and need a little helping hand from time to time. Saying you don’t need to detox is a bit like saying you don’t need running shoes to run, but as we all know…..it certainly helps. 

What should I expect during detoxification therapy?

Detoxification is a regular process – not a one-time event. It should be done under the care and supervision of a qualified naturopathic practitioner who can identify toxins and recommend their safe elimination. Detox therapies will vary slightly from person to person, but generally undergo Angela French Naturopath’s signature detoxification programs. This program offers a number of different options from a 2 week express detox to 3-6 month comprehensive detoxes. I recommend detoxes be undertaken at least every 6 months.
